The Amazon Story of NNPC’s Retiring Madam Human Resources, Oyeyemi Ladipo

At a time when many young Nigerians wonder whether the public service is where to be, the testimony of Mrs Oyeyemi Lawunmi Ladipo whose last stint at work with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC as it then was) lapses on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, holds great promise in its audacity to inspire.
Nothing in her story motivates than the fact that Mrs Ladipo, 58, popularly revered as Madam Human Resources (MHR) was appointed as the Group General Manager, Group Human Resources of the NNPC Group in 2016 and the very first GGM, HR to support two consecutive NNPC Group Managing Directors (GMDs), guiding them to amazing managerial success for the NNPC and exceeding expectations for the nation, proving also that nothing, in the final analysis, beats meritorious service.
Mrs. Oyeyemi Lawunmi joined the NNPC as a classroom teacher, on completion of her youth service as a public affairs officer at the Kaduna refinery, in the NNPC staff school, Kaduna on November 3, 1986. She rose through the ranks and held various positions during her 35years’ sojourn.
In 2014, she was appointed as the Executive Director Services (EDS) at the Flagship subsidiary of NNPC, the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), Benin, a position she held till 2016. Between 2006 and 2010, she held various management positions which included Manager, Leadership Development Learning (LDL), Manager, Career and Performance and Deputy Manager at the Group HR Division.
A core professional always on top of her job, Mrs. Ladipo has been an agent of change, institutionalizing performance, accountability and continuous policy improvement, a key driver of the NNPC Performance Management System, in addition to leading several other initiatives which have translated to improved service delivery, efficiency and cost savings for the organization.
She has been a firm believer in the establishment of structures to support activities at strategic and operational levels pioneering and delivering numerous staff management policies and projects that have enhanced NNPC’s Employee Value Proposition.
She is a woman with a heart of gold always willing to offer incredible support especially when hopes were almost dashed prompting many to wonder what type of woman God made her, inwardly beautiful, outwardly personable. Little wonder that recognition awards have continued to buffet her from many places, far and wide, in the course of her career.
They included Certificate of Distinction GMD’s Prize for Best Overall Candidate in the Chief Officers’ Programme in 2006, Certificate of Distinction and the Group Executive Director Corporate Services Prize for Individual Project in 2006.
She has also invested scarce time oiling her skills-set and in exemplary commendation to other NNPC staff across board aspiring to the commanding heights of the organization and the oil and gas sector. Today, she a reference point in the art, science and manner of corporate climb. This is what makes her retirement even more painful other many who think she would no longer be there for them.
She is an active and esteemed member of leading professional bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Management, NIM (Fellow), Institute of Management Consultant, IMC (Fellow), Society for Human Resources, SHRM (Member), CIPM –Charted Institute of Personnel Management, CIPM (Member), and, Charted Institute of Personnel Development, CIPD (Member), among others.
From just a classroom teacher, she rose to the pinnacle of her career by sheer dint of hard work, tenacity, sense of purpose and most importantly, the grace of God.
For a woman to have attained such an enviable career loaded with vibe, verve and vitality, she must have been blessed with a dependable support system personified in Brigadier-General Samuel Gbenga Ladipo (SG) (Rted) and that union produced three wonderful children.
At her leisure-time, she loves cooking, space and event management, Interior decoration, also spending quality time with family.
She is a devout Christian, ordained Deaconess and later ordained Pastor of El-Shaddai Bible Church, Dolphin Estate Ikoyi, Lagos in the years 1998 and 2006 respectively.
Today, we are celebrating an Icon, dedicated wife, true mother, philanthropist, giver, believer of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, prayer warrior, daughter of Zion and a thoroughbred Human Resources specialist.
