WAFU: Super Falcons Face Mali In Third Place Game After Semi-Final Slip

Nigeria’s female national, the Super Falcons on Thursday night failed to make it to the final of the maiden edition of the WAFU Women Championship in Ivory Coast after losing to the Black Queens of Ghana by 5-4 after a penalty shootout at the Treichville Sports Stadium.

The Falcons began the game on a bright note when Alice Ogebe put the team ahead  through a header in the eighth minutes but could not hold on to the lead.

Ampah Faustina leveled the score for the Ghanaians following a goal mouth scramble in the seventeenth minute thereon both side continued to attack from end to end with clear scoring chance being wasted.

The game went into a spot kick after both side failed to score the wining goal within the 90 minutes regulation time.

Chinaza Uchendu and Ologbosere failed to score from the spot while Grace Asantewas also missed a spot kisck for the Ghanaians.

Ghana will now face hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final on Saturday, while the Falcons and Mali will do battle in the third-place match also on Saturday.
